Hackoween DRAW-OFF contest!
Hi everyone!
Coming to http://www.halloweenman.com this Wednesday is the exciting first part of our epic crossover with Tim Seeley's hit Hack/Slash! Written by Drew Edwards, Halloween Man's creator, the webcomic is a fun take-no-prisoners action, horror, and parody machine! And it's free to read!
Our cover for the crossover is a tribute to the classic Freddy vs Jason poster (with pencils by David Baldeón, inks by me, colors by Marc Lewis). You can see it here: http://forums.millarworld.tv/index.php?s=5b72a8fec5a9d967c0482bafeb4c6beb&showtopic=84220&st=0&p=1858915entry1858915
For the art contest, we'd like you to attempt to do something a bit similar. It's your challenge to make a cover featuring characters from Halloween Man and Hack/Slash, which is also a tribute to a classic horror movie poster (or video/dvd cover)!
The winner will receive a page of David Baldeón's original artwork, and second place will get a Halloween Man t-shirt, but all of the entrants will go into the special Hack/Slash tribute gallery at HalloweenMan.com!
Send your entries to hmartwork (at) gmail (dot) com. The deadline is October 28th, and entries will go up on www.halloweenman.com on October 31st - y'know, Halloween?

KSWCC
It looks like I will be at the meeting of the Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club Fall Festival on October 18th in Lexington, KY! My father, Kim Simmons, is the guest speaker (talking about his decades of package and catalog photography), and I will be doing his introduction, and also drawing sketches at our table. The OSWCC event went so well, that I have high hopes for this one as well.

Interview Links!
Well, Mid-Ohio wasn't just productive in telling folks there about WANNABEZ and HACKOWEEN. I was also lucky to have the opportunity to talk with the media that were covering the event so people who didn't attend could hear about both projects. Comic Related did some great coverage of the show and a special shout-out to CR's own Chuck Moore for being one of the nicest persons in the industry!
Here are some links to interviews and press images!

Wannabez #0 premieres at Mid-Ohio
Well, Brant Fowler (Wannabez creator, writer and letterer) and I took on Mid-Ohio Con last weekend and had a great time meeting new people. We were selling brand-new copies of Wannabez #0, which features the original issue #0 story, along with pin-ups, articles, and a multi-page preview of issue #1! And the booth looked great, with the banner, character stand-ups, cards, portfolio, and racks of comics. We made alot of people aware of our book series and website, and were backed up by the appearance of our cat character, MAU, who was live and in person (portrayed by my good friend Jonna)! Mau entered a costume contest, and while walking the show, had pictures taken with celebrities, kids, and adults! I did some sketches, and Brant and I were even interviewed a couple of times! We also made some great retailer contacts.
Thanks to Brant, the whole booth team got Wannabez t-shirts that just rocked! Thanks to Jonna and Brant's brother Zach for their help at the show! Also there was the colorist for Hackoween, Marc Lewis, and together we helped put out some promotion for Hackoween, which debuts online at halloweenman.com on October 15th!
Check out the Wannabez blog here for more pictures! http://wnbz.blogspot.com/2008/10/mid-ohio-con-2008-is-wrap.html

Speaking of Visuals
Wild! Over the last few days, I had the chance to be interviewed TWICE for comics podcasts. It was alot of fun doing them, and both should be released or aired this week. For those of you who haven't heard my voice before, you're either in for a treat.... or not. Haha. Just expect to hear my laugh a few times.
The first podcast was recorded on Friday for CATCH DA CRAZE (http://www.catchdacraze.com) and both Brant Fowler and myself were interviewed by Samuel Vera about our project WANNABEZ! Brant was interviewed in the first half-hour, and I was on for the second half-hour. CDC expects to have this up online, downloadable too!, sometime mid-week. This will possibly be episode #110. In preparation for the broadcast, Brant and I have put abit of speed behind getting our Wannabez website up and going: http://www.wannabezcomic.com
The second one was recorded this afternoon (Sunday) for THE WEBCOMIC BEACON (http://webcomicbeacon.com) with a bunch of fine folks who love to work on stories about the open source character Jenny Everywhere, originally created by Steven Wintle, who actually became a surprise guest. Other guests included Nelson Evergreen and Benj Christensen. The show was hosted by Fes, who runs the website http://www.theshifterarchive.com, which gathers up and talks about the many appearances both prior and current of Jenny Everywhere throughout the worldwide web and sometimes print. Aaron Lewis co-hosted and it was a good time. The show should be released/aired this upcoming Friday. It will be show #20 for the site! I talked abit about working on "Soulless Mate" with Alex Hernandez, doing the photo-comic "Zuperiority Complex", and planning an upcoming strip called "Lil Jenny Everywhere".
I'll post direct links to both audios when the shows "go live"!
Thanks go out to Samuel and Fes for having me and the others on your shows!

WANNABEZ #0 available in print!
Mysterious Visions Anthology #5 (featuring Wannabez #0!!) is now in print and is reportedly a good seller so far for Dimestore Productions! I love holding this book in my hands. I had a chance to meet Ian Shires this weekend up at Dayton's Gem City Comic Con, and we talked about future plans about a possible crossover with another comic!
In the meantime, creator/writer/letterer Brant W. Fowler and myself (penciller/inker) have been aggressively promoting the comic through e-mails, Project Wonderful ads, websites, and approaching comic news sites with review copies. Brant and I have also made plans for the Ohio Comic Con in October, where we will have a table. And just last week, we were the official sponsor for the Comic Addiction podcast (episode 39), and mentioned on-air!
Go to http://wbnz.blogspot.com/2008/03/mysterious-visions-5-preview-and-buy.html or visit http://www.myspace.com/wannabezcomic to see a preview of the book and a link to the webpage where the book can be purchased through Dimestore!
Click here for the Comic Addiction podcast sponsored by us. Listen for WANNABEZ being advertised from the 2 minute mark to the 4 minute mark. Then enjoy the interview with their guest Matt Fraction.
Even more exciting news and events for Wannabez are coming up!!! Stay tuned!
Scott
