Original Art and Commissions

Original art for sale and I'm taking commission orders for the holidays! E-mail or send a message to me if you're interested, and I'll respond with more details. Original art is from a variety of projects, plus pin-ups and unseen sketches. Commissions will have final turnaround before late December, but you will see the work in progress from pencils to final stages. Commission work is done around my comics schedule.

Mid-Ohio Sketch Card Panel

Sketch card panel at Mid-Ohio went great, and thanks to Mark and Tom for showing their support by coming to watch and listen! Great meeting new people at the event too! That was my first panel, and hopefully not the last, haha. Nice learning some tips and other advice from fellow panelists who have been doing cards for awhile, since I am so new to the official ones.

Ringtail Cafe sketch cards and Wannabez Chibis

Some art that relates to good friends. Above, is a look at some art on sketch cards that I did for Darren Mueller, writer of Ringtail Cafe. These feature Leila and Patrick from the Ringtail Cafe comic book.

And below, are inks that I did over blue line pencils by Jackie Hernandez, artist for Ringtail Cafe. She did these for me and Brant and asked me to ink them. These feature characters from the Wannabez comic book.

OSWCC Badge Art peek

As the OSWCC Star Wars Social gets closer (July 11th in Caledonia Ohio), Matt posted an image I did of the TIE Fighter Pilot (for badges). There will be about 12 images for the complete badge set. The image he posted was of really early pencils, so I wanted to show club members the later pencils next, so I am posting it here as well.

"What Wannabez Character Are You?" Quiz

Take the "What Wannabez Character Are You?" Quiz on Facebook!

Find out which Wannabez comic book character you are most like!
I created the quiz today at Facebook, and hope you give it a shot and have some fun.
I'd love to hear who gets who as a result.

http://apps.facebook.com/whatwannabezesptrm/

"What WANNABEZ comic character are you?
Wannabez is a comic book series by Brant W. Fowler and Scott D.M. Simmons, and this quiz will tell you which colorful character you are! Sure, they are all abit delusional, believing they received super-powers from a local meteor shower, but hey, you can still relate, right? Are you the "dog-powered" Doberman? Or the "cat-powered" Mau? The "blazing" Streak? The "mastermind" IQ? The "telekinetic" Esmerelda? The "firestarter" Ignition? The "stretching" Slim?"

Free Comic Book Day pictures!

Some photo coverage from the FREE COMIC BOOK DAY event that took place at Bob Hickey's wonderful store, Comics2Games, down in Florence Kentucky in early May (day after WOLVERINE opened in theatres). Some pictures are here on the blog, and others in photo-articles I submitted to Comic Related.

The articles I am pointing to feature photography by me, or by Eric Adams (creator of Lackluster World), who took shots when you see me on camera. It was great seeing alot of friends again, including getting to talk with Scott and Benita Story more, and meeting Lora Innes (creator of The Dreamer) for the first time. And really special to me was the very first visit to a comic event I was doing by my parents, and my good friend Jim. My wife Shannon, who came with me to Mid-Ohio last year, also stopped by to surprise me.

Free Comic Book Day is coming

Among the great news I got this week, is official confirmation about my appearance at Comics2Games in Florence Kentucky on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY (Saturday May 2nd--the day after X-Men Origins Wolverine premieres). You can find out more information about all the guests, the store's location, and the signing times at: http://www.comics2games.com/stores.htm

Besides myself, guests at Comics2Games that day include Lora Innes (The Dreamer), Eric Adams (Lackluster World), Scott and Benita Story (Johnny Saturn), Bill Nichols and John Wilson (SKETCH), Chuck Moore (Comic Related), Brant Fowler (Wannabez), Darren and Krista Mueller and Jackie Hernandez (Ringtail Cafe), and Mike Maydak (Blackbeard Legacy).

I am excited to see alot of friends at the event, and I am stoked to have the opportunity to meet Lora Innes for the first time. If you have not yet read THE DREAMER, you are missing out on some gorgeous artwork and a story set in a time period not usually covered by comics. Her cover for the graphic novel is beautiful and fun.

OSWCC April Meeting and Patch

I was so excited to see the patch for the OSWCC membership kit. I did up the original artwork in pencils/inks and computer color, and it was very cool to see it in a patch form. Here is a look at the art in stages. First, there was the complete drawing of the troopers, then the simplified version with color so the patch could be done.

This weekend, I headed over to Matt's house, where he was hosting a meeting of the club. I ended up doing several sketch cards while I was there, by request, and had a wonderful time. I drew Yoda, three Leias, Darth Maul (for the first time), Han, and a Stormtrooper. Matt posted images of the meeting and my cards at Flicker, which can be seen by clicking HERE

Gem City Report Part 2

Besides the great sales at Dayton's Gem City Comic-Con, there were great friends new and old there. Mark and Jonna LeMieux were there, as were Chuck Moore, Bill and Raichal Gladman, Darren Mueller, Jackie Hernandez, Sean Collins, Bob Hickey, Kevin Hicks, John Wilson, Eric Adams, Ian Shires, and of course, my partner-in-crime on Wannabez, Mr. Brant Fowler. I also got to meet Jon Hodges, Don Kramer, and got to see one of my favorite artists who was just taking in the show as a regular attendee: Chris Sprouse (Tom Strong) and his wife Xan. OSWCC members and friends Mark, Matt, and Deanna stopped by to visit too!

There were a few possibilities around for me to get some more work, and I already started the ball rolling with a project I am really excited about if it comes to fruition. I sold an original page of art at the show, and some prints did really well too. I also donated a piece of art to the auction to benefit an animals charity, which I hope helped out as they ended up, I hear, raising about $600. And Underground Video Network interviewed me again, this time, with Brant.

Several of us in the "Comic Related" family headed out and over to Golden Corral after the show. It was a fun time.

More images of the Gem City convention from my camera can be seen here at the WANNABEZ blog!: http://wnbz.blogspot.com/2009/04/gem-city-con-aftermath.html

Gem City Report part 1

The Gem City Comic-Con was a great success for me, and overall a fun event. Brant and I sold copies of WANNABEZ #0 and the new digest-sized WANNABEZ #1 PREVIEW CONVENTION SKETCH EDITION. The preview sold well, as I was also doing sketches of any Wannabez character requested on the back cover for anyone who bought it. The characters requested the most were Dober-Man and Mau, and Dobie only beat out Mau by 1; however, I also did a sketch card of Mau on request (for Chuck Moore of Comic Related), so basically they tied. The only other requested character surprisingly was Whipped Potatoes, who was a character idea suggestion by a fan at Dimestore around the time we did Small Press Idol. Also, good sellers were prints of Admiral Ackbar, and sketch cards... where I drew a couple of characters for the first time, including Conan.

More to report later!

Comics For Cures update

The Comics For Cures auction for sketch cards continues this week and runs until Saturday evening. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, and the auction and event is hosted by Comics2Games, a comics store in Florence Kentucky.

There is still time to get your bids in. While some cards are going for only $1 so far, some others are up to $60 already. As for my cards, Soundwave (of the Transformers) currently at the time of this writing sits at around $8, and Big Barda is around $5.50.... and Wolverine and Rogue have remained at $1 so far, and Mau has gotten no bids just yet. Jeremy put a little correction comment below the two that had my name wrong, but again, please don't let that keep you from bidding! Whether you get mine or someone else's card(s), the money raised still helps out a very worthy cause... fighting cancer! Auction runs until Saturday at 8PM!

Here are the links to the eBay pages again:

For a Good Cause

Happening the night before the convention is the COMICS FOR CURES event at Comics2Games (Florence, Kentucky). I am working on my sketch card donations for the event and will be posting them here when I am done, before I send them to the store.

All the cards donated by various artists for the event will go up for auction on eBay for a week to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The last day of the auctions will be the night of the gallery show event on Saturday April 4th.

It's a great cause, and I hope you will check out the art and if you are moved to do so, bid on your favorite(s)! And if you are in the Kentucky area that night, stop by for the gallery show and mingle with the artists.

For more details, check out the website http://www.comicsforcures.com/

Gem City Con Coming Up

I am getting more excited about the Dayton Gem City Comic Con each day. Today, Mark LeMieux told me that he has been officially confirmed. It will be Mark's first-ever convention, and his wife Jonna's second, as she was part of Team Wannabez, dressing up as Mau for me and Brant at last year's Mid-Ohio Con. It's been awesome seeing Mark's sketches come through e-mail to me and I have seen some great unique stuff that I think people will love. They are supposed to have a table right next to mine, and that will be so much fun. I can't wait to introduce them to everyone, and Jonna knows both Brant and Chuck from Mid-Ohio.

A bunch of other friends old and new will be there as well, and if you have a chance to stop up and say hi, please do! Chuck Moore, Bill Gladman, John Wilson, Darren and Krista Mueller, Jackie Hernandez, Eric Adams, Bob Hickey, Chuck Kennedy, Brant and myself will all be there.... most of us with tables! There are also many others I haven't met in person yet from Comic Related who will be there as well, and I can't imagine how fun it would be if we all did dinner together afterwards... plus, I'd be curious if any one place could hold all of us! (Bill Gladman gives a run-down of who in the Comic Related family will be there in his Life in Four Colors column)

In addition to some Wannabez and my own Angelwolf Comics stuff, I will have sketches, sketch cards, and maybe some other original art for sale. I'll have portfolios out showing pages from upcoming projects, some of which are completed but just haven't been released yet by the writer or publisher. I'll be able to do any sketch card request for my very reasonable low price, and have found that to be one of my favorite things to do at shows like OSWCC and KSWCC last year.

If I hear where exactly I am in the hall or in a room, I will let you know here in the news blog, via e-mail (if I have your e-mail) and in my forum at Comic Related.

Dayton Ohio's Gem City Comic Con runs 10-5 Sunday April 5th. More information can be found at http://www.gemcitycomiccon.com

And here is a link to Mark's website, where you can see some of his illustration style and also some of his sculpture work! http://www.platypusproductions.net/

Wannabez 1 cover in glorious color!

Here is a look at the final cover for Wannabez #1. I am paying homage and spoofing the classic first appearance covers of the golden age and silver age. This is the second issue of Wannabez, since issue #0 came out last year. Colors are by Ross Hughes, and the lettering is done by the Wannabez mastermind himself, Brant Fowler.

The focus of the #1 issue is Dober-Man, Streak, and Ignition! Great fun, and alot of effort is going into the issue.

An ashcan of the issue is planned to debut at Gem City Comic Con (Sunday April 5th), and the actual final greyscale version should be solicited for the May issue of the Haven Distribution catalog.

Comics2Games Grand Opening

I went to the grand opening of the new Comics2Games (Florence, Kentucky) last Saturday and had a great time, hanging out with friends and celebrating a great looking store, and eating an awesomely cool Watchmen-themed cake. Brant Fowler, Chuck Moore, Katie Riley, Darren and Krista Mueller, Jackie Hernandez, John Wilson, and Eric Adams were there... along with the entire C2G crew, including its owner, Bob Hickey!

Here are some pictures taken by me or that were taken with my camera, and you can see more pictures I took at http://www.comicrelated.com/display.php?item=907&story=Comics2Games%20Party

I will be back yet again to the store for its Cancer Charity Event "Comics For Cures" on Saturday, April 4th, the night before Dayton's Gem City Comic Con!

CONFIRMED for Gem City Comic Con

Jesse Noble of Gem City Comic Con (Dayton Ohio on Sunday April 5th) recently confirmed me and my table for the show! Brant Fowler will be sharing the table with me, and we should be right next to my good friends Mark and Jonna LeMieux. Also, in attendance with or without tables, will be practically everyone from Comic Related, including Chuck Moore, the Ringtail Cafe crew, Bill Gladman, and more!

Jenny Everywhere Chronicles

The new Jenny Everywhere Chronicles have begun being published online! Benj Christensen is the writer, letterer, and colorist, ...and artist!... until he asked me to step in as the new artist. The strip is very fun to do, and updates weekly on the weekends at http://www.bjccreations.com/jenny/

Anytime you hit the link or go to the website, the most current page will show, but there is a very user-friendly set-up in order to go back and forth as needed. Before I was asked to come on board, Benj had already done several stories. So I invite you to check it all out!

OSWCC patch

As part of the festivities of the Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club (OSWCC) Summer Social event, and the 2009 membership kit, I did an illustration of a Clone Trooper and Stormtrooper facing off. I can't even show it all right now, because it's a secret, but here's a little tease. It's in full color, and won't only be used for the patch art (which is a simplified version of what you see here and beyond).

The other stuff at the event is sort of meant to be a surprise, but I can tell you that I am definitely highly involved with artwork for the show. Very very very exciting!

Grandma's 90th Birthday

As part of my grandmother's birthday celebration today (she turned 90 this year), I drew up some characters she has been wanting me to draw again. Every time I have visited her since she moved back to Cincinnati, she has mentioned how much she used to love my old comic strip.

When I was 11, I started a comic strip called "ANDREW" at the local newspaper (The Bethel Journal) and continued to do it almost weekly for seven years, until I graduated from high school. I stopped the strip because I never got paid for it, and I just decided to move on with something different when I went to college.

Andrew was pretty much an analogue of me so the character was an artist, went to school, yearned for a car when his bike started falling apart, did chores on a farm, and went on dates that didn't always go well. His girlfriend, Linda, was a cute redhead who loved baseball. Anyways, I plan on doing something with them again, and it was nice to draw them up again as a surprise for my grandma.

Toy Related

My latest article for my column TOY RELATED went up this week. It is the fifth installment since beginning the column last month. The first story was an introduction to the column, the second was a review (Aquaman), the third was a convention report, the fourth a preview of upcoming product, and this one was part of a look at the niche of customizing figures. Among the articles up next is an interview.... which be one of many I hope to do.

Special thanks to Chuck Moore, for having me onboard at the ComicRelated website and welcoming me into the family there.

A new area has been recently created by Chuck and the programmers that allow readers to access the column pages directly, rather than search the site for each specific entry. The Comic Related site overall has grown by leaps and bounds this past year, and just exploded with content and contributors within the last few months. It is very exciting!
